About Hinsdale Talks

What Is Hinsdale Talks?

Hinsdale Talks is an online forum for residents to share and discuss information and opinions about their community. We believe this is what local newspapers would do if they stayed laser focused on one community and used the Internet to its full potential.

Hinsdale Talks’s Goals

  • Use the Internet to easily share information, ideas, and opinions that matter in Hinsdale
  • Welcome all visitors, but distinguish between opinions that come from residents and those that do not
  • Ensure that residents set the agenda and guide the discussion
  • Focus only on Hinsdale, its residents, and its issues
  • Be a truly local business that supports the community

How it Works

  • Hinsdale Talks is a collection of forums and information on different topics that are important, interesting, or useful to the residents of Hinsdale, Illinois. A forum is a discussion that develops among our users over time on a single topic.
  • Anyone may use and contribute to Hinsdale Talks. While we are interested in the opinions of anyone who would like to contribute to Hinsdale Talks, we want to know the perspective of the person providing the opinion. Therefore, all users will register as one of three types: Hinsdale Residents, Hinsdale Merchants, and Non-Residents.
  • We will identify whether a person is a Resident, Merchant, or Non-Resident when they register for the site. This is why we will ask for your name and address.
  • Some forums and information will only be open to Residents. These will include those relating to our children, such as schools or youth activities. We believe Hinsdale Talks will be a useful way to communicate about these important parts of our family life, but we will be cautious and create a very safe environment for our children.
  • While anyone can contribute to the Hinsdale Talks forums, only Residents and Merchants can start new forums. We believe members of the community should determine the topics of discussion.
  • We will use polls to gauge opinion on some topics. All users can vote, but we may track and display the results of the poll by user type.

The Business

  • We have set up a business to run this journal, and we will support it through advertising. We believe through our intense focus on our community, we can create a forum in which advertising is interesting and valuable for our fellow residents and effective for our clients.
  • Users should be paid in some fashion for the work they contribute to make this journal successful. As a return on the community effort to build Hinsdale Talks, we plan to give 15% of all revenues to the Hinsdale Community House. We may change or expand the target of this 15% in the future, in which case we will seek input from our users.
  • We have no interest in sending you marketing e-mails or providing your names or addresses to other parties, except those providing services to us to operate this journal. This wouldn’t feel good to us and would make you much less likely to participate. Our Privacy Policy and User Agreement hold us to this and protects you. While we have the right to change the policy because we can’t predict the future needs of this journal and business, we must give you notice. We also cannot sell your names or addresses to other parties without your express permission. Both our Privacy Policy and the law bind us to this promise.
