MIDDLE-AGED RANTS
The R-word

In a stagnant economy and still struggling housing market, what public servants in their right minds would propose a property tax referendum? Hint: We elected them.

MIDDLE-AGED RANTS
The Santa Claus Levy

What's that I hear? The clattering of tax-and-spend hooves on my roof? Beware: The D181 Board of Education has drawn up a tax wish list, just in time for the Holidays. We need more No, No, No. Less Ho, Ho, Ho. Wake up! Attend the Dec. 14 hearing at 7 pm at HMS.

MIDDLE-AGED RANTS
The $1.5 Million 'Windfall'

About Tuesday's Vote

Why would a school board vote to pass issuance of working cash bonds in increments of $4 million and $10 million during an era of nearly unprecedented economic turmoil? Because, like some of the acts your pet might perform when he thinks no one is looking, it can.

HomeMade Pizza's $34 Pie

What recession? Our local HomeMade Pizza Company, on First Street, recently treated me to some good, old fashioned price gouging and a free helping of employee disdain, all in one eventful visit. Seems they've cooked up a large gourmet pizza worthy of the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book.

Optimism Trumps Change

The Oval Office evokes courage, love of country, and the sowing of freedom's seeds, attributes that come naturally to Sen. John McCain. It is not a place for damning America, for belittling the sanctity of democracy, for appeasing radicals, for self-absorbed rhetoric.

MIDDLE-AGED RANTS
The Content of his Character

Obama and Halloween

For some, an Obama For President yard sign is not frightening enough in a year when the horrors are all too real.
